libgnutls-openssl

I am a developer of ELinks and the person who made ELinks 0.11.5 not use libgnutls-openssl. It seems a bit odd to me that you mention that change in the article. I don't understand Russian; do you think readers could get the impression that a useful feature has been removed from ELinks?

As far as I know, ELinks used only the MD5 functions of libgnutls-openssl, and ELinks has a built-in MD5 implementation that it now uses instead. The MD5 code in libgnutls-openssl may be better optimized, but ELinks seems to use MD5 only for HTTP digest authentication, so the inputs are rather short anyway and the speed is not very important. (ELinks can also parse md5sums in BitTorrent metadata but apparently does not verify them.) The change should thus be entirely invisible to users, and I added it to the NEWS file only because it may be interesting to distributors of binaries.

You are of course free to mention the change in the article, but if there is some misunderstanding, perhaps I should add a longer explanation in NEWS. Kalle Olavi Niemitalo at 85.23.32.64 19:16, 18 октября 2008 (UTC)
