The object is rectangular in cross section and hollow. It is composed of a cylindrical neck which expands into a sub circular section which forms the body of the object. Flanking the junction to the neck and body are two small projecting spurs which would have formed two handles, both of which are missing due to old abraded breaks.

The body of the object has a moulded scallop design, this is formed by vertical, but slightly diagonal incised lines and raised ridges. On opposing side  has a moulded decoration depicting a heart shaped knot, the knot is split into three sections by the laces, the top two sections are sub semi-circular in shape and the bottom section is a sub diamond shape. Surrounding the heart is a raised circle that form a border, within the border are approximately seventeen pellets running circumferentially within the border.  

The object has a number of splints and perforations most probably caused by post-depositional processes.

The object is a light brown in colour and has an uneven patina. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.

Scallop designs began as the emblem of St James the Greater in the 12th Century but later became a symbol of pilgrimage in general as the Medieval Period went on.

The heart motif has been found on ampulla in Salisbury (Spencer 1990:91 no 186), in London, Maltby Springs, Lincs. and Brandon in Suffolk (ibid., 60; no 132), and in many other locations besides.
