BAV is a 6×6 amphibious transport vehicle based on the ZIS-151 truck produced between 1950 and 1956 by Zavod Imeni Stalina (ZIS) as ZIS-485 and from 1956 by Zavod Imeni Likhacheva (ZIL) as ZIL-485. BAV-A (also known as ZIL-485A) is an improved version based on the ZIL-157 truck.
