The name of the town is owned to the Sea Castle in front of the beach. It should be noted that the name is easily confused with that of the Kız Kulesi, a major sight in Istanbul. And then there is in Rize's Pazar district a Kız Kalesi that is also called Kız Kulesi. As it is only one tower on a rock in the sea that would not hold more, the name "Kule" (for "tower") seems to be the better one.
