Merging SMB and CIFS[править код]

Hi, as we are making the same merge on fr:, and as indicating en:CIFS, es:CIFS, de:CIFS, it:CIFS and some others, maybe CIFS and SMB should be merged, but i don't speak any russian to even start the thing on the merging page. Pyerre 15:05, 21 октября 2009 (UTC)

Translation into Russian Cyrillic[править код]

Hi. I want to draw improved versions of two Russian language maps that show Bačka and Srem regions in Serbia, but I could not find Russian Cyrillic versions of several names of Serbian towns, so is anybody here able to translate these names into Russian? Here is the list of names and sentences that should be translated and if you can translate that, please write Russian versions after Serbian/English ones. - PANONIAN - 212.69.2.231 09:38, 4 октября 2009 (UTC)

Names and sentences for translation into Russian:

  • 1. Veternik =
  • 2. Batajnica =
  • 3. Zemun Polje =
  • 4. map of Srem region =

Veternik is town near Novi Sad, Serbia and Batajnica and Zemun Polje are towns near Zemun, Serbia. - PANONIAN - 212.69.2.231 09:38, 4 октября 2009 (UTC)

Hi.
  • 1. Veternik = Ветерник
  • 2. Batajnica = Батайница
  • 3. Zemun Polje = Земун Полье
  • 4. map of Srem region =
First three I’ve looked through russian mass-media. The fourth… is it about en:Srem Distric ? In that case this is «Сремский округ». rubin16 10:06, 4 октября 2009 (UTC)
3. Zemun Polje = Земун-Поле by analogy to the city of Kosovo Polje, which in Russian is Косово Поле. — Iguaçu · !? 12:49, 4 октября 2009 (UTC)
Yes, Serbian lje and nje are always rendered in Russian as ле and не, not лье and нье.
map of Srem region = Карта Срема. --Koryakov Yuri 14:37, 4 октября 2009 (UTC)
Concerning Zemun Polje… I’ve said I had looked through mass-media, not transcription rules… Here it is «Земун Полье, Батайница», etc. But mass-media are often wrong. :-) rubin16 15:24, 4 октября 2009 (UTC)

The LocalisationUpdate extension has gone live[править код]

The LocalisationUpdate extension is now enabled for all Wikimedia projects. From now on new localisations that become available in SVN will become available to your project within 24 hours. Your localisations get into SVN from translatewiki.net typically within a day and at worst in two days. This is a huge improvement from the old practice where the localisations became available with new software. This could take weeks, even months.

The localisations done by our community at translatewiki.net are committed to SVN typically every day. When the system messages in English are the same as the local messages, they will now be inserted in a file and are available for use in all our projects in a timely manner

What this means for you[править код]

Local messages have an impact on the performance of our system. It is best when messages are as much as possible part of the system messages. In order to remove unnecessary duplication, all the messages that have a local localisation and are exactly the same as the system message will be removed. What we ask you to do is to compare and proof read the messages in translatewiki.net and the local messages. You can then either remove local messages when the translatewiki.net message is to be preferred or, you can update the message at translatewiki.net.

Messages that are specific to your project will have to stay as they are. You do want to check if the format and the variables of the message are still the same.

Why localise at translatewiki.net[править код]

When you localise at translatewiki.net, your messages will be used in all Wikimedia projects and eventually in all MediaWiki based projects. This is how we provide the standard support for your language. When messages change, at translatewiki.net you will be prompted to revisit your translations. Localising is more efficient because we have innovated the process to make you more efficient; there is text explaining about messages and we have applied AJAX technology to reduce the number of clicks you have to make.

How can we improve the usability for your language[править код]

We expect that with the implementation of LocalisationUpdate the usability of MediaWiki for your language will improve. We are now ready to look at other aspects of usability for your language as well. There are two questions we would like you to answer: Are there issues with the new functionality of the Usability Initiative Does MediaWiki support your language properly

The best way to answer the first question is to visit the translatewiki.net. Change the language to your language, select the “vector” skin and add the advanced tool bar in in the preferences and check out the new functionality. And make some changes in your user page. When there is a need to improve on the localisation, please make the necessary changess . It should update your localisation straight away. We would like you to report each issue individually at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Usability_issues.

When there are problems with the support of MediaWiki for your language, we really want to know about this. It is best to report each issue separately. In this way there will be no large mass of issues to resolve but we can address each issue on its own. Consider issues with the display of characters, the presentation of your script, the position of the side bar, the combination of text with other languages, scripts. It is best to try this in an environment like the prototype wiki as it provides you with a clean, basic and up to date environment. The prototype wiki is available for five languages but you can select any of them, change the preferences to your language and test out MediaWiki for your language.

We would like you to report each issue individually at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Language_issues. The issues you raise will all be assessed. It is important to keep each issue separate, because this will make it easier to understand the issues and find solutions.

This is the English translation of the above. "Please pardon the bad Russian prose. I am looking for someone who can write in English to answer a question about a type of bridge. Read the English article en:Canton Viaduct and then leave a message on my English talk page if you can help. Thank you." Sswonk 23:24, 25 июля 2009 (UTC) Sswonk 23:31, 25 июля 2009 (UTC)

Стрелка[править код]

Hi. Sorry for writing in english, it takes a lot of time for me to work with Russian keyboard... I have just noticed a down arrow in preview pages that adds #editform to URL and takes me to edit box. Did you edit the .css to get this feature? I would like to use the same function on ro.wiki, so if you can help me, please do it. Thanks in advance! PS: You can reply in Russian. --Gikü @ 18:10, 7 июня 2009 (UTC)

You could just copy this arrow (↓) and do a text search in Special:AllMessages (warning: it's a big page). The message with arrow is MediaWiki:Previewnote. P.S. By the way, sometimes Tab ↹ on the keyboard works just as well. — AlexSm 22:27, 7 июня 2009 (UTC)
Большое спасибо! --Gikü @ 08:36, 8 июня 2009 (UTC)

Call for translators[править код]

We have a time-sensitive piece on the English Wikinews; we need users to help another user translate a large interview piece (32 kb) before the Eurovision semi-final #1 on Tuesday, so this is something that needs good translators and someone who can work under a tight deadline. If you're interested, please contact me on my talk page on en.wikinews. The article needing translation is here. For people who doubt it can be done, it's already occurred in four different languages, three of which had only one translator and no other help. Thank you in advance for considering! Hello. I'm from Serbian language Wikipedia, where we have constant argues about how to write names of bands - in original writing (if they are written in Latin), or transcribed version. For example The Beatles or Битлс. I've noticed that in the one moment Russian language Wikipedia had the band names written one way or another, but in one moment all of the names are written in original writing. How did come to that? Did you have some kind of compromise, or a debate where you consider to write that way. What were arguments for choosing that instead of transcription? I'm asking because right now we had debate, so hearing experiences of others might help to solve this problem. Thank you. --Loshmi 10:48, 23 апреля 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the help. --Loshmi 11:31, 23 апреля 2009 (UTC)
When a band or artist name in written with Latin script, ru-wiki uses the original name (in foregin language), because most contemporary Russian-language reliable sources are doing so. Wikipedia must be based on reliable sources, and we are writing band names just like Russian editions of Billboard or Rolling Stine do, because they are reliable sources.

Don’t use autotranslators, write in English… rubin16 07:58, 17 ноября 2009 (UTC)
Thanks AVB.
My proposition is to delete Магнум Кримен because of bad Russian and because it is writen in nationalistic, edit warring point of view. Edit warring about this has lasted on english wikipedia few months and now there is NPOV consensus so in my thinking we need to translate version from english wikipedia on russian wikipedia
If we look further away it is possible to say that article is created (like many others in future ?) by english vandal with multiple IP which action are blocked on english wikipedia by administrators and he want to start edit warring on russian wikipedia (Jasenovac i Gradiška stara, Magnum Crimen)--Rjecina2 15:27, 17 ноября 2009 (UTC)
  • This article is also suspected to have been translated (practically, plagiarized) from a Spanish article, there are some strange things we found in the web, please take a look here for more info. In any way, its neutrality may be disputed, but I don't know much about those matters so I can't surely insert the template {{нейтральность}} into it. If you do think so, please do it. --David · ? 22:13, 17 ноября 2009 (UTC)

Explanation of the problem[править код]

The best explanation of the problem around this book is a desperate attempt of some editors and administrators to remove any trace about this great book . Most possibly behind the scene is the Roman Catholic Church attempt to extend the book ban and anathema, even this way.

The way applied against review of this really great book is elaborated below:

http://knol.google.com/k/carl-hewitt-see-http-carlhewitt-info/corruption-of-wikipedia-http/pcxtp4rx7g1t/5#

Corruption of Wikipedia (http://wikicensored.info/) For the greater good of Wikipedia, Jimmy "Jimbo" Wales should resign from its board of Trustees. Wikipedia's business model is generating Web traffic (primarily from search engines) for articles of conventional wisdom and morality (that are heavily censored by a commune governed by mostly anonymous Administrators and other anonymous high officials) to motivate (financial) contributions.

In normal academic practice, the views of experts are solicited, discussed, and respected. On Wikipedia, academic experts who have tried to participate have been denigrated as "self-promoters", censored, and then banned on the grounds that their views are not in accord with Wikipedia-imposed Administrator point of view. As part of its business model, Wikipedia has engaged in libel and vilification in an attempt to intimidate academics into conforming to the censorship of its Administrators.

This article explores issues regarding the corruption of Wikipedia. It does not address other Wikipedia issues.

Also, see here for more details at http://www.israelnewsagencyMOVECAPITALLETTERSOUT.com/wikipediacorruptioncensorshipisraelnews480710.html

Wikipedia has been blocked indefinitely from use by reputable academic, research institutions, media organizations per ruling of global professional users and/or editors.

As you can see, the site http://www.israelnewsagencyMOVECAPITALLETTERSOUT.com/wikipediacorruptioncensorshipisraelnews480710.html is filtered out by some Wikipedia adminstrator, led by a naive belief that that way the truth about the Wikipedia's corruption will be less visible.
