it. His face was bright like light-ning, and his garments were as white as snow; the soldiers trembled for fear ofhim, and were weak and helpless as dead men. And they left the sepulchre andwent into the city again. But very early in the morning, as soon as it began to be light on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, and Salome, came to the sepulchre, bringing spices to put upon the body of Jesus. As they were coming, they said to one another, Who shall roll away the stone for us from the door of the sepulchre? for it was very great. But when they came near, they found the stone was rolled away. And going into the sepulchre they saw an angel clothed in a long white garment, and they were affrighted. He said to them, Be not affrighted: You seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, he is risen. See the place where they laid him. But go tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead, and that he will go before you into Galilee; there you shall see him. 282
