English: Engraved landscape of African natives crossing the Ba-Fing or Black River (Niger River) by artist J.C. Barrow (who worked from Mungo Park’s sketches). The bridge is intact but its floating structure looks challenging. Natives on distant side of bridge appear to be mining natural materials while those who have crossed appear friendly and curious to an observant Park (seated with sketchbook in hand bottom right of image). Park studied this area on the return trip from his first journey in April 1797. The same river would take his life on the second trip.
