There is an expression, "it's all done with smoke and mirrors", used to explain something baffling. On the right, a human hand holds a white cloud of paper with holes as letter shapes. Contre-jour photograph, where the word "Dream" cut out within the cloud filters the sunlight to produce a symmetrical shadow on the left, displaying the word "Magic" on a wall. The blue background evokes the sky. Here the trick is immediately revealed through the photography, however it is possible for a conjurer to use the hollow pattern in the cloud of paper, to delude spectators. Mise en abyme is a formal technique of placing a copy of an image within itself, often in a way that suggests an infinitely recurring sequence (kind of self-reference). Il existe une expression "tout est fait avec de la fumée et des miroirs", utilisée pour expliquer quelque chose de déroutant. A droite, une main humaine tient un nuage blanc en papier avec des trous en forme de lettres. Photographie en contre-jour, où le mot "Dream" découpé dans le nuage filtre la lumière du soleil, pour produire une ombre symétrique sur la gauche, affichant le mot "Magic" sur un mur. Le fond bleu évoque le ciel. Ici, l'astuce est immédiatement livrée à travers la photographie, mais il est tout à fait possible pour un prestidigitateur d'utiliser le nuage creux en papier avec le modèle, pour tromper des spectateurs. La mise en abyme est un procédé consistant à représenter une œuvre dans une œuvre similaire (sorte d'autoréférence). Magie magique. Commentaire de l'auteur : La paire « Magie / Rêve » est l'un des couples de mots de 5 lettres les plus coopératifs, par symétrie miroir. « Magie » et « Rêve » font également partie des termes correspondant le mieux au concept d'« ambigramme », car les ambigrammes sont des sortes d'« illusions d'optique », et le rêve fait partie de la magie). Les lettres M/M, A/A et C/D sont simplement naturelles quand elles sont inversées. La lettre I se transforme en R sans difficulté. Seule la combinaison E/G est un peu délicate, mais toujours assez facile à ajuster, avec une seule coupure dans le trait, en tout cas plus facile que la plupart des autres combinaisons produites par les 26 x 26 lettres de l'alphabet. Par conséquent, ce n'est pas vraiment un hasard si plusieurs spécialistes élaborent la même solution, en explorant l'idée. Même chose probablement qu'avec certaines anagrammes célèbres, telles que "image / magie", "citer / écrit / récit", ou certains palindromes connus tels que "REVER" ou encore "Ni palindrome ne mord, ni lapin". En français, j'avais auparavant trouvé une calligraphie 4 fois symétrique associée au mot Rêve : "Reves ici venez". Ce concept de "Rêve Magie" est similaire à cette autre création, symétrique par rotation, intégrant également des nuages: Real world / Prank Fake (Monde réel / Blague Fake, en anglais). La mise en page de ce dessin avec une ombre provenant d'une photographie en contre-jour est originale, et a été inspirée par le concours photo Ombres (juillet 2020) de Wikimedia Commons. En tant que designer, j'explore souvent les phénomènes d'ombre, de transparence et d'objets en miroir, comme dans Motel / Water, en dessin avec une réflexion dans l'eau, Belges / Perdez avec une ombre orientée haut-bas, Penelope / Benevole à travers un miroir, ou Cognac / Danger en transparence sur un verre à liqueur. |

| Author's comment: | The couple Magic / Dream is one of the most cooperative pair of 5-letter words, by mirror symmetry. Magic and Dream are also among the terms matching best with the concept of ambigram, because ambigrams are sorts of optical illusions, and dream is part of any magic.
The letters M/M, A/A and C/D are simply natural when they are reversed. The letter R turns into an I without difficulty. Only the combination E/G is a bit tricky, but still relatively easy to shape, with a single cut in the outline, in any case much easier than most of the other combinations produced by the 26 x 26 letters of the alphabet. As a result, no wonder several specialists work out the same solution, when exploring the idea. Same chance, probably, as the obvious palindromes "mirror rim" or "Dogma I am God". In French, for the word Rêve (Dream), I found a 4 times symmetrical calligraphy: "Reves ici venez", meaning here dreams come. This concept of "Magic Dream" (or "Dream Magic") is similar to that other creation, with rotational symmetry, also designed with clouds: Real world / Prank Fake. Here the layout with a shadow coming from a contre-jour photograph is original, and was inspired by the photo challenge Shadows (July 2020) on Wikimedia Commons. As a designer, I often explore the phenomena of shadow, transparency, and mirroring objects, like in Motel / Water, used with water reflection, Belges / Perdez with a top-down shadow, Penelope / Benevole through a mirror, or Cognac / Danger on a shot glass. |
