With a certain amount of leak thetemperature conditions are still sufficient to carry more airthan can pass through the lamp, and the excess is taken in atthe leaks. A point is finally reached, however, where thetemperature in the chimney is too low to carry the quantity ofgas previously passed, and beyond this point the flow de-creases. The results with all the holes in the flue closed show thateven then there was a slight leak, amounting (when correctedfor temperature) to approximately four per cent. The temperatures given above were observed at about twoinches from the top of the iron flue. At the bottom the tem-peratures were 10 to 20 degrees less. This plant, which is the largest of its kind in the world, liessome 25 miles north-west from Butte in the Warm Springsvalley. The works include a sampling mill, concentrators. 900 tons daily, giving a total tonnage capacity of over 7,000tons when all sections are in operation. After crushing theore is screened to four sizes, viz.: diameters of 22mm, 7mm,5mm, and 2>^mm. The coarser sizes go to Harz jigs, the finerto Evans jigs, and the undersize is fed to hydraulic classifierswhich return their classification to other Evans jigs.
