English: Casa Mendigaña, Echauri. Centre of a large rural estate (probably around some 300-500 hectares), which belonged to the local Navarrese hidalguia, in sequence the Mendigañas, the López, the Arraizas and the Ezcurras. For centuries it belonged to the Mendigaña family; a woman from this branch, María Josefa Mendigaña, married Víctor Ambrosio López. Their daughter, María Concepción López Mendigaña (born 1808), inherited the estate. She got married to José Fermín Arraiza Illincheta (born 1807) from Ochovi, from a junior bramch of the Arraizas; he inherited little land and the couple lived in the bride’s posessions, in Casa Mendigaña. Their oldest son perished with no descendance, and the estate was inherited by their second oldest child, Teresa Arraiza López (born in Echauri in 1845). She married a barasoitarra, José Ezcurra Felipe (died 1916). He was probably also among the younger siblings, as following wedding the couple moved not to any estate in Barasoain, but to Casa Mendigaña. It was then inherited by their only son, Esteban Ezcurra Arraiza (1888-1964). He had no children, but he had 2 sisters. It is not clear who became the owner of Casa Mendigaña after Esteban’s death.
