The Chicago Theatre, originally known as the Balaban and Katz Chicago Theatre, is a landmark theater located on North State Street in the Loop area of Chicago, Illinois. Built in 1921, the Chicago Theatre was the flagship for the Balaban and Katz (B&K) group of theaters. Along with the other B&K theaters, from 1925 to 1945 the Chicago Theatre was a dominant movie theater enterprise. Now the Chicago Theatre is a performing arts venue for stage plays, magic shows, comedy, speeches, and popular music concerts. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 6, 1979,[6] and it was listed as a Chicago Landmark on January 28, 1983.The iconic Chicago Theatre marquee, "as an unofficial emblem of the city", appears in film, television, artwork, and photography.

Le 11 octobre 2007 a annoncé que le Madison Square Garden Entertainment à New York, filiale de Cablevision, a racheté le théâtre. Avant 2008, le théâtre a accueilli l'ouverture annuelle de la soirée du Festival international du film de Chicago. Le 12 mai 2005, le maire de Chicago Richard M. Daley a dédié une plaque sous le chapiteau en l'honneur de Roger Ebert Dayen.

Le "Chicago Theatre Preservation Group" a commencé la rénovation des bâtiments et les travaux se sont achevés en 1986 pour un coût de 9 millions de dollars. Lors de la rénovation, le théâtre a été restauré avec un aspect des années 1930 par les architectes Daniel P. Coffey & Associates, Ltd et des consultants en design d'intérieur à Heinsbergen & Co. Le théâtre de Chicago a rouvert le 10 septembre 1986, avec un spectacle de Frank Sinatra.
