the eldest son, is asfollows: William, born March 20, 1718, son of William andElizabeth Barney. The last six are given in the will as by my wifeMary. The birth record of William^ and the mention of wifeMary by William^ in his will, would seem to establishbeyond a doubt that this William^ 1695 had (first)Elizabeth, (second) Mary. As this will mentions eight children, and MaryBarney in the Biographical Memoir of CommodoreJoshua Barney mentions only one son (William), shewould seem to be in error. It is hardly necessary to state that the father of Wil-liam Barney who married Frances Holland Watts, naturally could have been none other than the firstWilliam Barney, 1695, referred to by Mrs. Mary Barneyin her Biographical Memoir of Commodore JoshuaBarney. Note.—Since this article was written and whichappeared in a pamphlet issued in 1910, there has beenfound a deed which conveyed land as a gift by MaryStevenson to her daughter Elizabeth, wife of WilliamBarney. See copy of deed page 23. 128
