will be a fabric in which every hundredth stitch inevery other course is tucked. These tuck stitches will occur in avertical line at every hundredth needle. The width of this patternis 100 and its height is 2. Vy., ^ ^ - . ( Press 99 Skip 1 Cut Presser. ) Ihe pattern is ( -„ f^^ -di • t> (• ^ ( Press 100 Plani Presser. ) If the plain feed is removed and the original cut presser feedis used,,this will load up every sixth needle. If one needle, how-ever, is removed, then at every turn of the cylinder the skip-cutwill step one needle ahead, that is to say, one needle fartheraround the cylinder in the direction of rotation. The needles thatwere skipped at one revolution will be pressed the next revolutionand the tuck stitches will take a diagonal course of approximately45°, inclined to the left, upward, as the fabric is viewed on a ma-chine that turns from left to right (anti-clockwise). If one needlehad been added instead of removed, the diagonal would have been 81 70 KNITTING.

At every hundredth revolution theskip space would be back to the needle where it started. A similar result would be obtained by leaving the needles asat first, 600, and making one more nick m the presser, or takingone out. The effect of this would be to step forward or back oneneedle at every hundredth needle, one needle at the first hundred,two needles at the next, etc. The above are the fundamental principles of tuck presserwork. It is customary to run a plain presser after each cut presserfor the ordinary forms of work, but of course, any combinationmay be used. To show how the pressers should be cut for anydesired pattern, take a piece of cross-section paper having as manyvertical spaces as there are needles in the pattern and as manyhorizontal spaces as there are courses. Number the horizontalrows of spaces to correspond to the pressers.
