English: Type Farnese-Steinhäuser statue of Eros displayed at Louvre Museum, also called Eros Farnese or Palatine Eros, as of restored by Carl Johann Steinhäuser without the later modern additions. Not to be confounded with the Eros of Centocelle.

It depicts mostly the torso of the god in action, his left wing and the body being supported by a tree-trunk covered by an animal skin with a bow and a quiver, with the arms positions resembling the Pouring Satyr statue ([1]). This roman copy in marble is based on an original attributed to Praxiteles by scholars; it appears to have been an initial work of Eros by Praxiteles, less soft than the Pouring Satyr and more analytical. It denotes Eros in a transitional phase ready to shoot his dart, in repose yet active as an archer. The Eros Farnese-Palatine may be part of an "Archer Eros" tradition and Praxiteles may have emulated Phidias' Eros, however Praxiteles' work shows innovations in its pose, which supports his claim that his sculpture was better than the Eros of Phidia. Praxiteles' later work of Eros, the Centocelle sculpture (that may have been passionately inspired by Phryne), stands in a meditative attitude and shows a more advanced repertoire and softer traces than that of the Archer Eros copyist tradition. Other few examples of the Farnese-Steinhäuser type showed Eros holding a phiale and an oinochoe (according to Corso (2004), p. 251 and 275) [2]).

Found in 1862. The modern reconstruction made in 1998 presents Eros holding two wreathes in the Louvre collection, and it is not exposed [3].
