| Описание | Press visit to the construction site for the connection of the car shuttle trains through a second tunnel portal. In 1959 a 195 m long second tunnel was excavated parallel to the old Gotthard tunnel. After 140 m there is a <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/kecko/20601999423/">connection</a> between the two tunnels where a track leads over. The second tunnel is also double tracked and in the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/kecko/21223149515/">rear end</a> designed as sidings. The new tunnel portal was used by the car shuttle trains until 1980, then only by freight trains that had to wait in Göschenen for the passage. Sometimes also for shunting when the tunnel had to be closed. There are three small cross-connections between the two tunnels, some of which with technical systems. This historical photo shows the installation of the switch 215 m inside the old tunnel. Between the two people on the left you can see a niche that has been covered. There is a <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/kecko/21035007460/">door</a> to a formerly secret military installation from 1950. It is still classified, but is no longer used for military purposes. Because it is not a stand-alone plant and there is another connection till Andermatt, it cannot be released from secrecy.
