El grupo escultórico representa una escena presidida por José Gálvez, ministro Universal de Indias. Aparece sentado, su pecho cruzado por la banda de la Real Orden de Carlos III. A su lado de pie, se encuentra su hermano Miguel, alter ego, portando una carpeta portafirmas. Su atuendo no es más que una sotana negra ya que había recibido Órdenes menores. Ambos fueron Regidores Perpetuos del Ayuntamiento de Málaga en reconocimiento a sus constantes desvelos por su ciudad y por su pueblo natal, Macharaviaya. Delante de ambas figuras, en escorzo, casi dándole la espalda a su tío José, la figura en actitud de iniciar la marcha de Bernando de Gálvez. En su mano izquierda porta enrollado el decreto que acaba de firmar su tío José: su nombramiento de Gobernador de la provincia española de Luisiana y Coronel del Regimiento Fixo del mismo nombre con capital en Nueva Orleans. Matías Gálvez, situado a la derecha de Bernardo, contempla emocionado la marcha de su hijo iniciando el gesto de bendecirlo. Esta simbólica escena, fechada en 1776, constituye el inicio de un importantísimo capítulo de nuestra historia. Desde Nueva Orleans, Bernardo de Gálvez encauzará la ayuda de España a las trece colonias americanas. Mientras su padre Matías vencerá a los ingleses en Guatemala, Bernardo triunfará sobre los británicos en el Misisipi, en la Mobila y en Pensacola. Por todos estos acontecimeintos, el rey Carlos III le concederá a Bernardo de Gálvez el título de conde de Gálvez. Estas brillantes victorias resultan decisivas para que los Estados Unidos de América alcancen su independencia en el año 1783. Matías y Bernardo de Gálvez desempañarán en el cargo de virrey de Nueva España, cuya capital es México. Allí, en la Iglesia franciscana de San Fernando resposan hoy sus restos.

The sculptural group represents a scene presided over by José Gálvez, Universal Minister of the Indies. He appears seated, his chest crossed by the band of the Royal Order of Charles III. Standing next to him is his brother Miguel, an alter ego, carrying a signature folder. His attire is no more than a black cassock since he had received minor orders. Both were Perpetual Aldermen of the Málaga City Hall in recognition of their constant care for their city and their home town, Macharaviaya. In front of both figures, in a foreshortened position, almost turning his back on his uncle José, the figure in an attitude of starting the march of Bernando de Gálvez. In his left hand he carries the decree just signed by his uncle José: his appointment as Governor of the Spanish province of Louisiana and Colonel of the Fixo Regiment of the same name with capital in New Orleans. Matías Gálvez, situated to the right of Bernardo, contemplates with emotion the departure of his son, beginning the gesture of blessing him. This symbolic scene, dated in 1776, constitutes the beginning of a very important chapter of our history. From New Orleans, Bernardo de Gálvez will channel Spain's aid to the thirteen American colonies. While his father Matias will defeat the English in Guatemala, Bernardo will triumph over the British in the Mississippi, Mobila and Pensacola. For all these events, King Charles III will grant Bernardo de Gálvez the title of Count of Gálvez. These brilliant victories were decisive for the United States of America to achieve its independence in 1783. Matías and Bernardo de Gálvez will be the viceroys of New Spain, whose capital is Mexico. There, in the Franciscan Church of San Fernando, their remains are laid to rest today.
