d a party of four from Chicago to the Klondike goldfields. Mrs. Curran, who was a teacher and missionaryamong the Indians of the northwest for 15 years, wearstwo bright gold rings which were molded by a frontierblacksmith from gold panned by her husband from theSaskatchewan river. Gold is found, according to Mr. Curran, in all of thestreams of the northwest in varying quantities and lui>been mined in a desultory way for many years. During his residence in the territory Mr. Curran saysprospecting parties frequently pushed north, but thepolicy of the Hudsons Bay company, which has grownrich from trading with the Indians since the time ofCharles II., has been to discourage white men from get-ting a foothold.
