is MajestysGovernment : Government House, St. Johns, 25th October, 1901.Sir—I have the honor to inform you that their RoyalHighnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York reachedthe harbor of St. Johns on the morning of the 23d current, inH. M. S. «Ophir,)> escorted by H. M. S. « Crescent,)) « Diadem,))«Niobe» and «Proserpine» and left early this morning, asalready reported to you by telegram. 2. Their Royal Highnesses expressed themselves as muchpleased with their reception by the people of the Colony andwith the preparations which had been made for their welcome. 3. The popular demonstrations of loyalty and devotion tothe King and to their Royal Highnesses were enthusiastic anduniversal, and there can be doubt that the visit of His Majestysson and the heir to the throne, with his royal consort, hasproved intensely gratifying to the whole of the people of theColony, and cannot fail to have a most happy and lasting effect,strengthening the ties which unite the Empire.

I am glad to be able to report that the proceedings andceremonies so graciously attended and performed by theirRoyal Highnesses passed off in a satisfactory manner, and butfor some rain and wind storms yesterday, nothing occurred tointerrupt the due carrying out of the several events in theprogramme fixed for that day. 5. His Royal Highness, as I have already reported to youby telegram, invested the Premier with the insignia of a KnightCommander of S. S.
