77 Throug-h the medium of the press, the radio, and the films,you are more or less familiar with what followed. Briefly, in February, 1934, this first train was delivered andafter short break-in runs, went to Washington, D. C, for a pre-view by the President. After a 13,000 mile tour of test andinspection, it was placed on exhibit at the Century of Progress.It was also given a series of high speed acceleration and brak-ing tests between Grand Island and Columbus, Neibraska, someresults of which are reserved for later discussion. Quite recently, further tests have been conducted in regardto minor adjustments and resulting in further refinements ofperformance. The first tram has thus been used as a traveling laboratoryin order to work out and apply to the following high speedtrains, some details that could only be settled by actual experi-ence in the same manner that new automobile models are some-times worked out on the proving grounds.
