ied. Microscopical examination of several sections shows thetumor to be sarcoma of the endothelial variety. The patient wasexamined by the writer on Oct. 10, 1906, and found in very goodcondition. On Jan. 28, 1907, he was seen again by the writerand at this time very extensive involvement of the retro-peri-toneal glands was found, the abdomen being filled with verylarge nodular tumors. The right side of the abdomen was almostentirely filled with a large nodular and very tender tumor. Therewas no local recurrence in the scrotum. The patient had lostconsiderable weight and was decidedly cachectic. From thistime on he failed very rapidly and died on Feb. 26, 1907, withevidences of metastatic involvement of the brain and lungs. Sarcoma originates usually in the posterior portion of thetesticle but may start in the epididymis. It appears as a smallnodule which in its growth crowds the testicle towards theperiphery. An effusion may occurinto the tunica vaginalis which may be serous or bloody. As thetunica albuginea and the tunica vaginalis are gradually invadedthe mass breaks through the scrotum and a condition developswhich has long been known as fungus testis malignus. Theneoplasm may be hard or soft and on cross section is white, yel-low or grayish red and at times multiple cysts may be seen. Me-tastasis occurs through the blood vessels and secondary growthsmay be found in the lungs, liver, brain, retro-peritoneal lymphglands, the other testicle, the skin and bones. There is frequently a history of traumatism as an etiologicalfactor. The disease begins insidiously as a small nodule orthickening in the testicle which may remain quiescent for severalyears and then suddenly take on rapid growth attaining con-siderable size.
