in the Hadjasdistrict. The Rev. Henry H. Jessup wrote that shortly afterthe Rev. Joseph Wolff arrived in Tripoli, Syria, hesaid one morning to his interpreter: Abdullah, I amgoing to the bazaars to preach to the Moslems. Ab-dullah replied: T beg you not to go, for they will mobus. The Doctor insisted, and Abdullah himself after-wards described the trip to Dr. Jessup: We walkedaround to the bazaars and Dr. Wolff mounted a stoneplatform and said: *My friends, I have come to preachto you the gospel of Christ. He that believeth shallbe saved, and he that believeth not shall be condemned.*I translated as follows: The Khowaja says that heloves you very much, and that the English and theMoslems are all alike. Whereupon the Moslems ap-plauded, and Wolff thought he had made a deep impres-sion. Dr. Jessup exclaimed: How could you deceive agood man in that way? He replied: What could Ido? Had I translated literally we should have beenkilled; and Wolff may have been prepared to die butI was not.

Al-most every hour the Bible was in the hands of theleaders and listeners. The missionaries journeyed upand down the field in winter and summer, in heat andcold, in sunshine and storm.
