C LANDMARKS complete survey of his lands, apportioned them into farms, and regulated the cultiva-tion of all. The products of his estate became so noted for the faithfulness—as toquality and quantity—with which they were put up, that it is stated that any barrel offlour that bore the brand of George Washington, Mount Vernon, was exempted fromthe customary inspection in the ports to which it was sent. There were many relax-ations in the arduous duties he had assumed. Ke delighted in the chase. In theheight of the season he would be out with the fox hounds two or three times a week,accompained by his guests and the gentlemen of the neighborhood, and ending theday with a hunting dinner, when he is said to have enjoyed himself with unwontedhilarity. He also greatly relished duck shooting, in which he was celebrated for hisskill.
