rgeon and author: b. Paxton, Mass., 14 April1825; d. Cincinnati, Ohio, 16 Jan. 1892. Edu-cated in Leicester Academy and Harvard Col-lege, from which he graduated in 1853. Attendedmedical lectures at Jefferson Medical College,Philadelphia; College of Physicians and Sur-geons, and the New York Medical College ofNew York city, and Worcester Medical Insti-tute, graduating from the latter in 1855. Hewas demonstrator of anatomy in his almamater in 1855-6; professor of surgery in Cin-cinnati College of Eclectic Medicine and Sur-gery, 1856-9; demonstrator and professor ofanatomy in Eclectic Medical Institute of Cin-cinnati, 1859-61 ; professor in same of surgery,from 1861 to 1892. He wrote <A Treatise enFractures and Dislocations (1873) ; Manual ofEye Surgery (1874) ; Art and Science ofSurgery (1876) ; Operative Gyna^ology(1890) ; Conversations on Animal Life, andMiscellaneous Papers. published in 1894. afterhis death. He was president of the NationalEclectic Medical Association in 1882-3.
