rthey eould be mended and replaced. Itvery frequently occurrs that somethingbreaks about the threshers outfit, andmany times much valuable time is lost.A convenient shop saves it all. We arequite sure that it will pay the aver-age farmer living one-half mile ormore from a blacksmith shop to havea small or short kit of tools for him-self. It will save much time andmany dimes. In all these years wehave saved much important time byrepairing, etc. The shop and the train-ing prepared us for the emergencies.To knowv that you are prepared tomeet the many accidents, and that youcan make many things that may beneeded at almost any moment, is agreat satisfaction. Again. I have nodoubt but what this source of gratify-ing the energies of the young life inthe shop, measuring our skill and em-ploying our youthful minds, satisfiedus with our lot, instead of making usseek company and pleasures awayfrom the direct influence of our par-ents.—J. It wasplay and fun for us then, but longsince I have learned that we were thenboth cultivating our minds and mus-cles to be able to turn them to manyuseful kinds of work on our farm. Inlater years we have heard father saythat the money spent in building andsupplying the shop was one of his bestinvestments. As a matter of course there are manythings, such as building houses.barns, mowing a heavy meadow and was veryanxious to finish that day. About twooclock in the afternoon a bolt lostout of the machine. Failing to find it,he had to unhitch his team and gothree miles to a blacksmith shop toget a new bolt made. Other people werethere getting work done and he hadto wait his turn. It was almost tenoclock when he got the new bolt—15minutes work and a cost of 15 cents.The actual cost was a great deal more I have often said that the only wayto make a good farmer is to first makea good man; and the best way
