Xittle )fork pase 145 Open, treeless moors, abounding in irregularmounds and depressions, covered with a scantgrowth of grass, stunted willows, and a dwarfedunderbrush, extended in a gradually rising valley toa pass about three miles north-west of the lake. The view on the other side of the pass is one ofthe most inspiring in the mountains. The slopedrops suddenly a thousand feet and discloses theentire length of Bear Creek valley, or the Little Forkof the Saskatchewan. This river takes its source in afine glacier, enclosed by high and rough mountains,among which there are immense snow fields. Fromtwo arched caverns in the ice at the end of theglacier, a milky torrent issues, and after crossing agravelly flat, enters a large lake which lies belowyour feet as you stand on the pass. This is PeytoLake. Its blue waters are closely girt by a verydensely wooded shore on every side.
