A legend tells a story about a man with four daughters. One day, a horde of barbarians attacked the village, where they lived. They killed the man and held the daughters as captives. While the barbarians transported the hostages, the captured women rebelled and managed to escape. One of the riders followed them and captured them again on the place where the mushrooms are now. The rider chopped off the head of one of the daughters, and when the head fell on the ground, it became a stone mushroom. The rider swang with the sword again and chopped of the heads of the other two sisters, which again became two mushrooms. The rider got of the horse, scared, and swang to the fourth sister, but before he managed to chop off her head, she became a stone mushroom, like her sisters. The rider tried to run, but after a few steps, he became a black rock, which is now known as "Karatepe" and is located near the mushrooms.
