Photograph of the bell ringer with his bell at the pueblo of Isleta, New Mexico, ca.1898. He stands in the wooden belfry with his hands pressed against the rim of the large bell which hangs on a chain from a thick wooden beam above. Slats cover openings on two visible sides of the square structure.
