English: Tilaurakot, an ancient site in Nepal, is about 2 km from Taulihawa Bazaar in Kapilvastu district. Where Gautam Buddha spent 29 years of his youth. The kingdom of Gautama Buddha's father, Shakya Ganadhipati Shuddhodhana, was the capital of Kapilavastu. Tilaurakot is the land of knowledge, playground and tapobhumi of Gautama Buddha. Gautama Buddha was born in Lumbini on the day of Punirma in 623 BC. The same Baishakh Punirma is still celebrated by Buddhists as a festival.
During the excavations at Tilaurakot, many important materials of archeological importance have been found. The site is still excavated from time to time and remains to be excavated at the site of the Buddha's time. After a thorough examination of the ruins, it has been proved that this is the ancient palace of King Shakya. According to recent research and scientific tests, Tilaurakot is a well-managed fortified city and its chronology dates back to the 8th century BC, that is, 2800 years ago, said Dr. Rabin Kaningham, Vice Chancellor of Durham University and Chief Archaeologist. |
