English: Taranto, Italy (June 20, 2005) – Petty Officer 3rd Class Richard Russell swims out to the United Kingdom's submarine rescue vehicle LR-5 to unhook the crane as it was lowered off the Finnish ship Fennica. Russell is assigned to Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit Two (MDSU2). MDSU2 and LR-5 are testing their capabilities to rescue Sailors on submarines from the ocean's depths during the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) submarine escape and rescue exercise Sorbet Royal 2005. Twenty-seven participating nations, including 14 NATO nations will test their capabilities and interoperability. Four submarines with up to 52 crewmembers aboard will be placed on the bottom of the ocean, while rescue forces with rescue vehicles and systems work together to solve complex disaster rescue problems.
