Описание PLUMBBOB - 1957 - NEVADA TEST SITE -- Circular shelter, sponsored by the West German Government, will be tested under an atomic detonation in Yucca Flat late in August. Shown just before the concrete pour over the formwork, the shelter is about 50 percent complete. The stack in foreground contains an air exhaust pipe and the emergency exit, a steel ladder embedded in concrete. Also in the foreground is the leading edge of a concrete pad forming the base of the shelter. The main entrance and an air intake pipe will be located at the far end of the shelter. Inside diameter of the steel-reinforced concrete shelter is eight feet, two and one-half inches, with a wall thickness of one foot, four inches. Over-all length of the structure, which will accommodate up to 50 people, is 44 feet, seven and one-half inches. It is covered with five feet, three inches of earth. The Federal Civil Defense Administration is cosponsor of the program, which includes a second circular shelter and seven rectangular shelters. They are designed and located for testing at pressures ranging from approximately seven to about 260 pounds per square inch.
