Описание
English: General Piet Cronjé (1836-1911), veteran general of the army of the South African Republic during the Second Boer War, taken prisoner by the British when he surrendered after losing the battle of Paardeberg on 27 February 1900. The photograph shows Cronjé as prisoner of war on Saint Helena where he remained until the conclusion of the war on 31 May 1902. Manuscript on photograph: "P.A. Cronje" / "Generaal Z.W.C".

A South African work that is in the public domain in South Africa according to this rule is in the public domain in the U.S. only if it was in the public domain in South Africa in 1996, e.g. if it was published before 1946 and no copyright was registered in the U.S. (This is the effect of 17 USC 104A with its critical date of January 1, 1996.)
