English: Under Secretary of state for Political Affairs William J. Burns (middle) shakes hands with Republic of the Philippines President Benigno Aquino (right) as U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas, Jr. (left) looks on. Under Secretary Burns visited Malacanang Palace to meet with President Aquino and convey the United States congratulations. The meeting with President Aquino and top cabinet members focused on strengthening the U.S. – Philippine relationship and cooperation. Under Secretary Burns emphasized the U.S. is ready to partner with the Philippines to “meet the challenges and seize the opportunities of the 21st century.” |
