The star reflects Roanoke’s nickname, “The Star City of the South,” which is inscribed on the mace.
The drum displays the Virginia State crest below a yellow scroll edged white inscribed “TWENTY NINTH ARMY BAND” in dark blue; below are the campaigns and the awards of the unit.
The tabard displays the state crest, surmounted on the shape of the shoulder sleeve insignia worn by the unit.
