Уи́льям Ге́нри Ха́рви (William Henry Harvey; 5 февраля 1811 года, Лимерик — 15 мая 1866 года, Торки) — ирландский ботаник и миколог[3].

Биография[править | править код]

Уильям Генри Харви родился 5 февраля 1811 года под городом Лимерик в семье квакера и преуспевающего торговца Джозефа Мэсси Харви.

Начальное образование получил в школе в Баллиторе (графство Килдэр). В возрасте 15 лет главным интересом Харви стали морские водоросли[4].

В 1848 году он находился на лечении в Гастингсе, где познакомился с Маргарет Скотт-Гатти, будущим автором книги «Британские морские водоросли»; по мнению ряда биографов писательницы, Харви был одним из тех, кто привил ей увлечение морской флорой[5].

Уильям Генри Харви был куратором гербария Тринити-колледжа[6] и профессором ботаники Королевского общества Дублина.

Уильям Генри Харви умер от туберкулёза 15 мая 1866 года в городе Торки и был там похоронен[7].

Научная деятельность[править | править код]

Уильям Генри Харви специализировался на Мохообразных, водорослях, семенных растениях и на микологии[3]. Описал более 750 видов и свыше 75 родов водорослей[7].
