Hello. I'm from Serbian language Wikipedia, where we have constant argues about how to write names of bands - in original writing (if they are written in Latin), or transcribed version. For example The Beatles or Битлс. I've noticed that in the one moment Russian language Wikipedia had the band names written one way or another, but in one moment all of the names are written in original writing. How did come to that? Did you have some kind of compromise, or a debate where you consider to write that way. What were arguments for choosing that instead of transcription? I'm asking because right now we had debate, so hearing experiences of others might help to solve this problem. Thank you. --Loshmi 10:48, 23 апреля 2009 (UTC)

• Hello, we in russian wikipedia name musical bands with their own language. For example look here Категория:Музыкальные коллективы по алфавиту. Sometimes we translist name to other writing system, like here Бзикеби (группа). I don't know, did we any discussion about it or not. Example: ВП:Опросы/Дополнение к ВП:ИС - использование латиницы в заголовках статей (Requests for comment about addition to en:WP:Naming conventions related to usage of latinic in articles name). Beside this, there was and is many local wars around using original or transliterated/transcribed names. Latest example: ВП:К переименованию/29 марта 2009#Би-би-си → BBC (Request for rename Bi-bi-si to BBC). -- A^VB^talk 00:21, 24 апреля 2009 (UTC)

When a band or artist name in written with Latin script, ru-wiki uses the original name (in foregin language), because most contemporary Russian-language reliable sources are doing so. Wikipedia must be based on reliable sources, and we are writing band names just like Russian editions of Billboard or Rolling Stine do, because they are reliable sources. [править] Always up-to-date details for every municipality in Finland

Hi project, I just wanted to let you know we have launched a project called FMPortal in the Finnish Wikipedia.

The purpose of the project is to provide up-to-date statistical data about Finnish municipalities. We have set up a centralized portal for this project in the toolserver. If you would like to utilize one or more of these templates, please fill out the localization details and adopt the Wikipedia page. After localization any bots, which can read details over the HTTP protocol are able to update the template details as follows:

1. Population count: updated once per month from Population Register Center of Finland
2. Acreage details: updated once per year from Land Survey of Finland
3. Tax rate details: updated once per year from Tax Administration of Finland
4. Demographic information: updated once per year from Population Register Center of Finland

A total of 12 different templates provide almost all of the important information about Finnish municipalities and are easy to adopt. The core templates can provide the date when a source was updated and a reference link for this. You can localize the reference links to use your wiki's format and every date is provided in the ISO 8601 format, supporting fully {{#time}}. The actual values output have no thousand separators and use the dot as decimal separator, so the values can be localized with {{#formatnum}}.

We have a time-sensitive piece on the English Wikinews; we need users to help another user translate a large interview piece (32 kb) before the Eurovision semi-final #1 on Tuesday, so this is something that needs good translators and someone who can work under a tight deadline. Did you edit the .css to get this feature? I would like to use the same function on ro.wiki, so if you can help me, please do it. Thanks in advance! You could just copy this arrow (↓) and do a text search in Special:AllMessages (warning: it's a big page). The message with arrow is MediaWiki:Previewnote. P.S. By the way, sometimes   Tab ⇆  on the keyboard works just as well. — AlexSm 22:27, 7 июня 2009 (UTC)
