Размеры динозавров являются одной из самых интересных особенностей этой группы животных для учёных, СМИ и общественности. Динозавры демонстрируют необычные вариации в своих габаритах — их вес мог составлять от 164 г (Epidexipteryx) до 108 т (Argentinosaurus)[1][2][3][4].
Текущие данные свидетельствуют о том, что средний размер динозавров менялся на протяжении всего их существования[5].
Рекордные размеры
Зауроподы имели самые большие параметры среди всех динозавров. Гигантские доисторические млекопитающие, такие как Indricotherium и Palaeoloxodon (самые крупные наземные млекопитающие[6]) были невелики по сравнению с гигантскими зауроподами. Только современные киты могут соперничать в размерах с этими динозаврами[7].
Один из самых высоких и тяжёлых динозавров, известных по более или менее полным скелетам — Giraffatitan brancai. Его останки были обнаружены в Танзании между 1907 и 1912 годами. Животные достигали 12 м в высоту, их длина составляла 21,8–22,5 м, а масса 30–60 т[8][9]. Один из самых длинных динозавров — Diplodocus hallorum, обнаруженный в штате Вайоминг в США.[10]
