Родился 25 апреля 1947 года в Бристоли. На протяжении своей музыкальной карьеры Типпетт сотрудничал со многими исполнителями, в числе которых рок-группа King Crimson (в качестве сессионного музыканта принимал участие в записи альбомов In the Wake of Poseidon, Lizard и Islands).
