Боковой палатальный сонант — боковой согласный звук, встречающийся в некоторых языках мира.

Похож на русский «ль»[lj], однако если в русском языке этот согласный звук палатализуется кончиком языка, то в некоторых других языках мира, например в итальянском языке этот звук палатализуется серединой языка, прикасающейся к твёрдому небу.

По мнению некоторых учёных,[1]боковой палатальный Сонанты противопоставляется своей глухой паре /ʎ̥/ в некоторых субдиалектах трёндешка, который является диалектом норвежского языка.[2]

Раньше считалось, что этот звук присутствует во многих языках мира, но выяснилось, что либо это альвеоло-палатальный боковой аппроксимант, либо постальвеоло-препалатальный боковой аппроксимант, либо ламинально-постальвеолярный боковой аппроксимант.[3][4]
